Brainstorm Breakthrough
I used to have this ridiculous fear that I would share my thoughts to brainstorm with another author and they would in turn steal my idea and I'd be left in the dark with my mouth hanging open. Thank you anxiety - I swear it's like this little person constantly giving me worst-case scenario thoughts for every daily thing. It's exhausting.
With that said, I saw in one of my favorite groups on Facebook - Moms Who Write - and there was a lady offering brainstorming to fight through some blocks. Being 2022, I decided to leave my crazy fears in 2021. I messaged her and we began to brainstorm about my current work in progress "Chasing Fireflies". I was having some issues with a certain plot point and was not sure it was solid enough to hold the entire story. After a few minutes of her asking questions and giving suggestions, I began to add more to the plot that I always wanted to but didn't think it was "wow enough". But then I realized, it's not about being WOW, or unexpected. Not all the time at least. Of course, I don't want to write a predictable love story, but then again, most love stories are predictable to a certain extent. There will always be one single element of the story where the reader is like, "Well, okay I didn't expect that."
I think, even with some predictability, the story will be just as wholesome and interesting as I intended and hoped for.
It was so refreshing to feel like I'd connected with my characters again. If I must admit, they've been a little elusive in giving me the muses needed to tell their story. With this new information to keep in mind, I think it'll be much easier to really dive into their world and write it out. I look forward to my word count tonight, even if last night was only 1000 ish words. I feel like maybe tonight, the muses will inspire me to get into the zone of writing and my fingers will fly over the keys with ferocity.
Amazing what a little brainstorming can do! I look forward to brainstorming more in the future and maybe helping me get through the other crazy blocks. But for now, I'll focus on the novel calling to me the most.
Aside from this, I was able to get a good bit of social media scheduling down and interaction posts ready to go. If you're reading this at all, I want to thank you for sticking with me in this journey of mine. And a huge shout out and thank you to Ariel J. You helped me so much by just asking a few questions and giving suggestions on ways to think about it. It made me look at it from a different angle and after that, it was like the ideas kept flowing.
I guess it's time to end this blog - however short - and move on to the next item on my to-do list. Day three I believe was a success! Until next time folks!
